Thanks again to all the parents that were able to meet with me during parent teacher conference on Thursday and Friday!!  It was great to share all the growth since January! Happy Spring Break!!! In literacy this week, we learned about revising our writing, using the 3-2-1 Check it!!  After the students wrote about their swimming experiences, they used a special revising pen to read over their writing.  They were looking for convention mistakes, spelling errors, and a sentence they might want to change up.  In word work, we looked at how 'or' and 'ar' can make an 'er' sound in some words.  We also looked at how groups of letters when added to the end of a word (suffix) can change the meaning.  For example, we learned that when /ed/ is added to a verb, the verb becomes past tense. In math this week, we continued working on patterns.  This week, we focused on input and output tables and learning about shrinking patterns.  We build and designed...

In literacy this week, we began working through the writing cycle to write a personal experience about our swimming lessons.  We started with learning a new planning strategy, quick draws to get our ideas down on paper. Next, we learned about organizing our writing and keeping similar ideas together by using our 'organizational drawers'.  In word work, we learned about silent letters, such as, kn, mb and wr.  We also learned about the suffix 's' and how when it is added to words it can make a /s/ sound, a /z/ sound and a /ez/ when es is added. In math, we began working on patterns.  This week, we reviewed what a repeating pattern is and created several repeating patterns with actions and sounds in our table groups.  Next, we looked at growing our increasing patterns.  We learned that they are called infinite patterns, meaning that they can go on forever and forever. We built several patterns with blocks and recorded them in our journals. In Science, t...

In Literacy this week, we finished our writing about what it would be like to be 100, be reading it over and revising it.  For Pink Shirt day, we focused on writing a poem from different perspectives and then typed it up on the computer.  In word work this week, we looked at the sounds oi, oy.  We added them to our sound wall and worked at spelling words with those sounds in them.  On Thursday, we looked at the morpheme of <s> and how when we add it to the end of words, it makes it plural. In math, we continued our work in our math classes. The grade 3's continued to work on multiplications, they looked at the commutative property, and the property of zero as well as wrote some multiplication stories.  The grade 2's focused on subtraction, using blocks to visualize why we need to regroup when subtracting and then complete some paper and pencil work on using the standard 'stacking' method. In Science this week, the grade 2's finished their musical ins...
