Week 26 ( March 10 -14)

In literacy this week, we began working through the writing cycle to write a personal experience about our swimming lessons.  We started with learning a new planning strategy, quick draws to get our ideas down on paper. Next, we learned about organizing our writing and keeping similar ideas together by using our 'organizational drawers'.  In word work, we learned about silent letters, such as, kn, mb and wr.  We also learned about the suffix 's' and how when it is added to words it can make a /s/ sound, a /z/ sound and a /ez/ when es is added.

In math, we began working on patterns.  This week, we reviewed what a repeating pattern is and created several repeating patterns with actions and sounds in our table groups.  Next, we looked at growing our increasing patterns.  We learned that they are called infinite patterns, meaning that they can go on forever and forever. We built several patterns with blocks and recorded them in our journals.

In Science, the grade 2's learned more about light.  They learned about transparent, translucent and opaque and created a visual journal page about each part.  They learned about reflection and refraction and completed some experiments to explain.  The grade 3's worked on designing and creating their own simple machines.

In Social Studies, the grade threes began looking at the countries of Tunisia and the grade twos began learning about an Acadian community, Meteghon.  We learned about where in the world and where in Canada these communities are located.
