Week 15 (Dec 18-22)

Week 15 (Dec 11-15)

 EMJ Leadership Spirit week Activities: Monday, December 18 - Holiday Colours - Wear Red or Green Tuesday, December 19 - Winter Wonderland - Dress in Blue or White! Wednesday, December 20 - Ugly/ Fun Holiday Sweater day Thursday, December 21 - Holiday Gear Day - festive hat, glowing necklaces, peppermint leggings! You name it!   Friday, December 22 - Pajama day!  In Literacy this week, we focused on finishing and practising our Winter Solstice sentences for our concert next Tuesday.  We continued our independent reading time with each student reading their 'practice books' at their desks while other students work in a small groups learning their targeted books and practising their targeted phonics skills. In math this week, we continued with our shape unit.  In grade 2 we focused on identifying the edges, faces and vertices.  In grade 3, we focused on types of line segments, angles and sorting polygons using different sorting rules.  We also completed a math assessment on shape

Week 14 (Dec 4-7)

 Phew, it was a busy one, with visiting our Winter Market and the Book Fair all in one week! In Literacy this week, we wrote a friendly letter to our parent volunteers to say thank-you for their help on our field trip.  We also continued our work with sentences, using conjunctions, because, but, and so.  This week, we practised orally before writing some sentences on our white boards. In math this week, we continued our study of shapes.  The grade 2's focused on sorting 2D and 3D shapes using one or two attributes.  The grade 3's focused on recognizing polygons, regular, irregular and their correct names based on their number of sides.  We also explored Tangram puzzles, seeing how we could move 2D shapes to complete the puzzles. In Social Studies this week, we finished our project on where we live in the world.  Ask your child what continent, country, province and city they live in.  On Thursday, we started mapping the countries and communities that will be our focus for the re

Week 13 ( Nov 27 - Dec 1)

Telus Spark Field Trip!! A special thanks to parent council who funded our trip to the Science Centre this week, so we could learn more about shapes, patterns and number manipulation through movement.  In Literacy this week, we focused on understanding and correcting sentence fragments.  First, we learned what makes a complete sentence, a group of words with a subject and a verb.  Then together we practices identifying them in sentences and then correcting sentence fragments that were missing one or the other.  Then we worked on using conjunctions, 'because', 'so' and 'but.'  These words help sentences to move forward. In math this week, we began different rotations.  Each student was grouped according to their knowledge and understanding of shapes.  Then each day the grade 2& 3's worked through different rotations including, working through a lesson with the teacher, practice what they learned, a fun fact practice and a game station.  This week our focu
