Week Four ( Sept 25 - 28th )

 In literacy this week, we completed some writing based on the many events we had this week.  We read a story called, Shi-Shi- Etko, who is an Indigenous girl preparing to go to residential school.  She prepares to go to school by making a memory bag. We discussed what would go into our memory bags, drew pictures of 5 things that we would put in our memory bags, and then wrote a sentence about why we put in each item. In math this week, we focused on comparing and ordering numbers.  We reviewed the symbols we use, greater than, less than and equal to.  Then the grade 3's practised with numbers to 1000 and the grade 2's practised with numbers to 10 000. This week in Social Studies, we began some work with the Medicine wheel and it's teachings.  We reviewed the different colours, their meanings and teachings of whole body wellness. Week Three (Sept 18 -22)

 Happy Friday!! It was wonderful to see all the parents and students, who were able to come to our Meet the Teacher Evening on Thursday.  It was great to meet you all! In Literacy this week, we continued our focus on making sentences Super! We introduced the concept of 3- scoop words, which are words that make writing more interesting and exciting. The grade 3's discovered a great resource, called Banishing Boring Words, which helps them find different, more interesting words to use in their writing. In math this week, we reviewed Odd and Even numbers and discussed why it isn't just the digital in a number that determine if it is odd or even.  It is the one place value that determines if a number larger than one digit is odd or even.  We also completed some math assessments. In art this week, we continued our focus on the elements of art.  We discussed how the colour wheel contains primary and secondary colours and how it can help us when mixing colours. Week Two ( Sept 11 -15 )

 Thanks to everyone who was able to make it to the Pancake Breakfast this morning!! It was a lovely opportunity to see everyone in the EMJ community come together. In Literacy this week, we focused on building complete sentences with nouns and verbs.  We started with sticky notes with nouns and verbs and worked up to adding adjectives to make our sentences more interesting.  In reading, we had our first day of Library on Thursday and got to choose 2 books to keep for the week. Please return library books on Thursday next week! In Math this week, we continued our work on Place Value and representing numbers.  This week we worked with base ten blocks and place value charts.  We also learned about expanded form, breaking numbers apart into their values. In gym this week, we continued with different types of tag games.  These tag games help students to understand their spacial awareness in the gym and how their body can move in different ways. Week One ( Sept 5-8th)

 2023 Happy First Week of School! In Literacy this week, we focused on developing our writing Stamina and creating our writing goals for the year.  Together we created 2 writing goals, one to make our writing interesting and one to make it clear. In reading, we discussed the 3 ways to read, and began working on our reading STAMINA. In Math this week, we began exploring how to represent numbers in different ways.  We played a game to build the largest number using a place value chart and practised reading larger numbers to 10 000. On Thursday, we used base ten blocks to build a creation and then represent the number of blocks in standard form. Looking Ahead to Next Week: 1.
