Week Eleven ( Nov 15-17)

 Happy Métis Week!!

In literacy, this week we wrote a paragraph on a Métis theme.  We read a story called the Giving Tree and had some great discussions about reciprocity and what we would give up to the tree.  We planned and drew what we would give up in complete sentences.  We also read again with our buddies on Friday, sitting Elbow to Elbow and Knee to Knee.  We continued with our literacy groups and practised the suffixes -ly on our white boards.

In math this week, we continued with our data management unit.  This week, we worked on dot plot or line plot graphs.  We learned that they are a frequency graph and they help to represent the data in a more visible way.

In the afternoons, we discussed Métis culture and learned about 3 distinct symbols of the Métis peoples.  We learned about the Métis Sash, the Red River charts and the Métis flag.  We also talked about how beading is important to the Métis people and completed some pointillism art.
