Week 17 (January 16-19)

In literacy this week, we focused on identifying and recognizing the differences between fiction and non-fiction books.  We explored and did a scavenger hunt around our classroom and with partners to find which books fit into each category.  Then on Thursday, we began looking at the different text features in non-fiction books.  We looked through a collection of on-fiction books and searched for all the different types of text features, such as, a table of contents, glossary and index.

In math this week, we continued working on our addition and subtraction strategies. We worked with partners to prove why and how different strategies are useful when solving addition problems.  We also continued working on addition of 2 or 3 digit questions with regrouping.  The grade 2 & 3's have done a great job 'regrouping' when there is a group of ten.

In gym this week, we concluded our work with floor hockey and stick skills by playing mini-games with our classmates.  We talked a lot as a class about team work and 'letting things go', if our team is successful or not with scoring goals.
