 Thanks to all the parents who were able to meet for interviews. It was great to share all the great learning happening in room 7! In Literacy this week, we learned about 2 different types of poems.  We read different Haiku poems and reviewed what syllables are. Then the grade 2/3's wrote their own Haiku about nature.  We also looked at a silly rhyming poem, called Limericks.   In math this week, we finished our pattern unit looking at shrinking patterns.  We build them, described them, and they looked at shrinking patterns in number sequences.  We also completed our patterns' assessment showing everything we learned about repeating, growing and shrinking patterns. In Science and Social Studies this week, we finished our look at light energy with the grade 3's building and designing their nightlights.  The grade 2/3's did a great job thinking like an engineer and solving a problem.  We also talked about the first day of Spring, The Spring Equ...

 Happy Skipping Week!!  In literacy this week, we began work on persuasive writing.  We learned about the difference between an opinion and being persuasive.  We also learned about the structure of a persuasive piece, the what, why, why, why and what was that again.  We also brainstormed many different ideas and examples of how we can persuade our reader.  In word work, we focused on 'Bossy R' words.  We learned that when words contain a vowel and then an 'r' comes right after it, the 'r ' is very bossy to the vowel, and you can only hear the 'r' sound. In math this week, we focused on growing or increasing patterns.  We learned that growing patterns can be in shapes and in number sequences.  We also learned how to use an IN and OUT table to represent the pattern rule. We also worked on a word problem, based on a book called 'Two of Everything', and worked with partners to decide if they would like 1000 coins or 5 coins and a magic doubling ...

 This week in literacy, we began learning how to do cursive writing.  We started learning about making the 'mountain climbing' letters, such as b, l, k, and u.  We also wrote thank-you letters to school council, to thank them for paying for our swimming lessons.  We explained why we enjoyed swimming so much and all the different skills we learned.  We also talked about synonyms and how we can use them to add variety to our word choices when writing.  In word work this week, we leaned about silent letters, kn, mb and wr. In math this week, we continued our work with repeating patterns.  We build and drew examples of repeating patterns and identified the core in each pattern.  We used the large math carpet this week to make it into a hundred chart.  We worked as a team placing all the numbers in the correct places and then discussed different patterns we noticed in the numbers when skip counting by 2's and 3's.  In Science this week, we be...

Happy Swimming Week!   In literacy this week, we focused on writing a poem about Anti-bullying.  We focused on writing our poem from 3 different points of view, the bully, the bullied and the bystander.  We also worked on our typing skills, and typed up a good copy of our poems to add to our pink shirts.  We also reviewed the spelling patterns of 'au', 'aw' and 'ou' , 'ow'.   In math this week, we began exploring patterns.  We reviewed what a repeated pattern was and that a pattern is something that repeated itself.  We used pattern blocks to build and create repeating patterns and growing patterns. In Science this week, we completed our study of Sound Energy by building and presenting musical instruments.  Each instrument, needed to create sound, change pitch, volume and duration.
