Week 34 ( May 23-26th)

In Literacy this week, we continued with our Fractured Fairy Tales.  This week we focused on adding the structure of stories, Somebody Wanted But So then.  We created a story together as a class based on the classic Cinderella Fairy Tale.  In Word Work we looked at Hyperboles, that is a figure of speech we use to exaggerate to emphasize our point. The grade 3's had a great time rewriting and creating their own.

In math this week, we continued to work on measurement.  This week we focused on converted measurements in the metric system.  Then we learned about the Imperial System, why it's used in the United States and how it is important to know what it is.  We learned about inches, feet and yards and how they convert or match with mm, cm and metres.  The grade three's also worked demonstrated their mathematical knowledge through a math talk about geometric shapes, coming up with many different ways to explain why a shape didn't belong.

In Social Studies this week, we finished up our study of Ukraine.  This week we got to taste some Ukrainian Poppy flower bread.  We wrote about it in our visual journals and compared it to food we are already familiar with.  We also worked on our ALL ABOUT UKRAINE Posters, this is our final project for this unit.

In gym, we took advantage of the warm weather and played different versions of kickball games.  The grade 3's did a great job working as a team when in the field to catch the ball and running the bases if they were up to bat.
