Week 28 ( June 19 -23)

 Happy Summer Solstice!!

In literacy this week, we worked on our descriptive paragraph writing about ducks.  The grade 3's researched facts about ducks and then wrote their ideas into a non-fiction paragraph.  They used Fancy Fact starters and 3- scoop words to complete some of their best writing this year.  They did a wonderful job revising their writing, looking for punctuation and sentences to change.

In math this week, we finished our unit on currency.  Several students brought in currency from different countries around the world, and we compared it to our Canadian coins and banknotes.  We also reviewed our work with equations, working on adding and subtracting equations to solve for the unknown number.

To celebrate the summer solstice this week, we listened to the teaching of an Elder and learned some Blackfoot words for sun, earth and summer, that we sketched in our visual journals.  Then we played some Indigenous games outside during gym.  We played 'Moose Bone',  'Fist full of sticks', and 'Make the Sicks jump'.  The students had a great time cooperating and testing their target and intuition skills.

Looking Ahead to Next Week:

1. In Literacy, we will create a Year Book /Newspaper for our year of learning.

2. In math, we will play some games to finish off our year.
