 In Literacy this week, we completed various writing tasks with different purposes.  On Monday, for Earth Day, we listened to some stories about the importance of taking care of our Earth (Na'Na).  Then we wrote about 4 different ways we can protect the Earth.  We also created our own Earth and heart using weaving. We also wrote Thank-you cards for our support staff as part of Staff Appreciation week. In math this week, the grade 2's the worked more on place value with numbers up to 1000.  The grade 3'scontinued to work on their multiplication chart, learning the 4,8, 3 and 6 times tables this week.   In Science this week, the grade 2/3's learned about simple machines and how forces help simple machines do work.  The students also designed and built their own catapults.  Then on Thursday, they tested their designs in the Great catapult shot!  In Literacy this week, we continued our work on narrative stories.  This week, we talked about character development and how we can make our characters more interesting and exciting by planning out what are character's special talents and personalities are.  In word work, we focused on reviewing the different sounds that both C and G make and how was look for the signal letters e and i to give us clues to know what sound they make. In math, the grade 2's worked with Ms. Casey and Ms. Helen on reviewing adding and subtracting 2-digit numbers with regrouping.  The grade 3's continued with multiplication and creating their own multiplication chart.  This week we learned about the 5, 10, 2, and 4 times tables.  We practised these facts with some work on paper and through games with our partners.  In literacy this week, we continued our work learning about the elements and parts of narrative stories. We read various fairy tales and discussed their elements, such as the characters, setting, problem, beginning, middle and ending.  We wrote summaries about each fairy tale as a response. Then we wrote our first narrative story, from a picture, to give us a better understanding of what we need to learn about story writing. In math this week, the grade 3's continued with their study of multiplication.  This week, we learned about the communicative property of multiplication and how arrays are a visual way to represent multiplication.  We also began looking at the multiplication chart and learned how it works.  The grade 2's continued with their work on 2 digit regrouping with subtraction. Welcome back, hope everyone had a good Spring Break!! In Literacy this week, we focused on looking a different genre of texts and their features.  We sorted books into different genres and then determined what genre they were from.   Then we worked on responded to the texts we read together as a class, by answering questions in our response journals about what we read. In word work this week, we focused on suffixes, es, s and ly. In math this week, we learned about an Indigenous way of keeping track of time.  They are called Winter Counts and each student drew a picture on their 'animal hide' to represent significant events in their lives. We will add this to our daily calendar routine to keep track of events in our classroom as well.  Also, the grade three's began learning about multiplication.  They learned that the multiplication sign X means equal groups of, and used some circles and stars to represent multiplication.  The grade two's worked on the...
