Week 32 ( May 21-24)

In Literacy this week, we continued to write complete and descriptive sentences about Meteghan, an Acadian community.  This week, we researched 3 interesting facts about Meteghan culture.  The grade 2/3's are doing a fantastic job remembering to add capital letters and periods to their sentences.  In word work, we learned about dropping the e and changing the y to 'i' in words when adding suffixes such as ed, 'es', 'est', and 'ing'.

In math this week, we continued with fractions.  We worked, folding strips of paper and labelling them using the correct fraction representation.  We also had a couple fraction talks, discussing how and what fractions we see in different pattern blocks.

In Science and Social Studies this week, we continued to learn about Peru and Earth Systems.  The grade 2/3's learned about the importance of Llamas and Alpacas in Peru.  In science, we learned about how the Earth changes under the surface and how scientists can learn about Earth's changes by looking at fossils.  We spent some time observing and sketching fossils, trying to figure out what they were.

We also spend some time outside, sketching in our journals and observing the world around us.  We used the SEE, THINK, WONDER journal exercise.
