In Literacy this week, we finished our Duck Diaries with a final entry about the ducklings heading off to the farm.  Then we wrote a review and reflection about our field trip to Fish Creek park on Wednesday.  We continue to read independently each day, focusing on the skills we learned in our small reading groups.  Please remember to read over the summer holiday as well, Check out the Ultimate Summer Reading Program   https://www.calgarylibrary.ca/events-and-programs/ultimate-summer-challenge In math this week, we continued looking at time.  We focused on learning how an analog clock tells time and how it compared to a digital clock.  Next, we looked at how to relate seconds to minutes and minutes to hours.  We also built our own clocks, learning about how a clock is split in half and then quarters.  This week in literacy we continued our work on our Duck Diaries.  We added in a diagram and the life cycle of a duck. We also wrote about their experience swimming and doing a "Duck Walk" down the hallway.   In math this week, we learned about the 2 different systems of measurement, the metric and the imperial.  Then we looked at perimeter and how it is measuring the distand around a closed shape.  We build different rectangles with a perimete of 30 tiles. In Social Studies, we continued looking at culture in Ukraine and the beautiful artwork of Pysanky eggs.  In Science, we looked at plant life cycles and compared them to animal life cycles. Ducks, Ducks, Ducks!! Welcome to our 8 ducklings that have joined the grade 2/3 team this week.  We watched them hatch from their eggs and begin growing into ducklings. Much of our learning this week and next week, will be connected to our ducklings. In literacy this week, we started our Duck Diaries.  Each day we will write an entry in our journal about the significant events that have happened with our ducklings.  So far we have written about being inside of the egg, hatching and being held.  We worked on adding in our sensory words and correctly forming sentences.   In our math groups, we began looking a measurement.  First, we worked with non-standard units and measures the length on objects around our classrooms.  Then we looked at standard units, mm, cm, m and km.  We first we estimated the lengths and then we measured with a ruler.
