Week 31 ( April 22-25)

This week in literacy we focused on writing about Earth Day.  We read a book called, 'Thank you Earth' by April Pulley Sayre.  It is written about all the things we should be thankful for that come from the Earth using a literacy technique called alliteration.  Together we brainstormed ideas and wrote our own Love Letter to the Earth using alliteration.  In word work this week, we looked at an alternative spelling pattern of 'ough' and how it makes two different sounds, 'aw' and 'o'.  Then we 'coded' a piece of writing with many 'ough' words located with in the text and practiced our reading fluency, by reading it together.

In math this week, we continued with our math groups.  Working on division and how it can be represented in several different ways.  We also solved different puzzles, such as a mystery mobile.

This week we also had a special guest, Ms. Nida who gave us a wonderful presentation on her home country of Tunisia.  This helped us learn about about the country we are studying in social studies class.

We also completed an Earth mobile to celebrate Earth day.
