Week 34 ( May 12-15)

This week in literacy, we continued our focus on elebroating or adding details to our sentences.  These week we explored different sensory words that we can use to decribe what we see, what we hear, what we smell, what were taste and what we feel in certain situations.  We rewrote some borning sentences by adding sensory words to "paint a picture" in our readers mind.  With our word of the day, we looked at 'some, many, would and were'. Making sure we map those spellings into our brains because these words don't follow the normal patterns and can't be sounded out.

In math groups this week, we began a new unit Fractions.  Students explored the whole and parts of fractions by using playdo and cutting into equal parts.  We learned that the top number in a fractions is called the numerator and the bottom number is called the denominator.

In gym this week, we used our pillow polo skills to play some mini games.  The grade 2/3's did a great job working as a team protecting the net and trying to score on the other teams net.

Also this week we were very lucky to host a special guest.  Sandra Manyfeathers, a Blackfoot elder in-training to speak with our students.  She shared storied about how to connect with the land and how to be a good human and respect our classmates.  She also taught us a 'hand' game about hiding an object and guessing where it is hidden.
